Evidence for my earliest pond paddle: The director of the Auburn Land Lab challenged me to show evidence that this is the earliest I have been able to get paddling on Caesar Pond for the last 10 years. So, I cobbled together this slide show of photos to show the state of the ice on the pond over the years. For some reason, I was not able to find my 2002 photos, but I looked in my nature diary and found this entry dated March 30, 2002, “I went ice water kayaking on Caesar Pond this afternoon. There was some open water in a few places at the far north end of the pond, and some slushy ice elsewhere. I pushed my way through the slush until I got to some thicker ice just offshore.” I also found entries for March 19-20, 2002 that told of snow storms and an icy pond on those dates.
