Downy Woodpecker Wing Feathers: Drew found these feathers at the base of a dead tree in our back yard as we were walking down our forest path to play Frisbee with Kasha. Downy woodpeckers are very common in our neck of the woods all year long, and they feed from the suet block at the bird feeder on a daily basis. I identified these feathers by going to the National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory website titled: The Feather Atlas – Flight Feathers of Northern American Birds. I clicked on “Browse Images” and chose “Woodpeckers” on Drew’s advice. He is quite the observant birder.
