Bird Update: Baltimore Orioles have arrived along with the Red-breasted Grosbeaks. The oriole flew immediately to the hummingbird feeder seeking nectar. Drew nailed half an orange to a tree which became instantly popular with the oriole, although I believe the orioles would prefer a dedicated oriole feeder (with the same sugar water combo we give to the hummingbirds). Drew will look for one next week. We should be seeing the Summer Tanager in about a week, although he usually just puts in a one-day appearance, and then spends his summer over at the pond where we see brief glimpses of brilliant red periodically.
Insect Update: I saw the first bumblebee of the season today. The wasps are starting to fly around, and the blackflies are in great abundance.
