POND:
Yesterday I went for a paddle on the pond from 7 am until 11 am. The dragonfly nymphs were seen everywhere I turned as they clung to grass stems. There were many dragonflies just emerging from the nymphs; most of them were of one species probably skimmers, although I cannot be sure as they were just pumping up their wings and had several hours to go before their markings would show up clearly. And, the most awesome of awesomeness occurred as I was paddling along the shore toward the north end of the pond. I happened to glance at the shrubs to my right and saw my first ever Luna Moth in the wild (the only ones I’ve seen before have been in butterfly pavilions). WOW, what an impressive insect it is. It was in full view with wings spread in all its glory! I was able to get quite close to it and snap a few photos with my macro lens. Happy day, oh happy day… Oh yes, I also saw strings of frog eggs stuck to the underwater grasses and lily stems. I am going to try to collect some for photographic purposes as they mature.
