VEGETABLE GARDEN: I planted the bush beans and 4 squash plants today. The tomato plants are growing by leaps and bounds. They are going to be awesome this year.

FLOWER GARDENS: I trimmed off all the old flower buds off the daffodils. There are blue flag irises and yellow irises in bloom on two plants, with all the other irises getting ready to bloom. I am looking forward to photographing them as they have such delicate markings…and speaking of delicate markings, the pink wiegela flowers start out light pink and then darken as they’ve been in bloom for a few days. They have many deeper red spots leading from the edge of the flower petals toward the throat where the stamen and pistils are located…sort of like a runway for insects who might pollinate them. And, my blue lupine are in bloom.

POND: I checked on the kayak this afternoon as I’ve only taken it out once this spring and have neglected it since. It was in great shape (clean, dry, and with only a few spider webs). Tomorrow, I intend to go for a paddle. I am anxious to see how my tendinitisy arm will handle paddling. I saw the loon diving and paddling around while I was admiring the pond. It is ever so peaceful over there.

MUSIC FOR NATURE VIDEOS: We ordered a didgeridoo today as we have decided that maybe we can create our own music for our nature slide shows. It will take quite awhile to become proficient enough to record our music (if we are successful in even making a sound through the didgeridoo). But, it might be fun to try. I was looking for an instrument that did not require a lot of finger movement, and the didgeridoo seemed to be the most likely candidate. The one we are getting is a beginner’s model made of plastic (at a low cost) with a rubber mouthpiece. It will be in the key of D. I’ll post a photo, and a sound clip, of it when it arrives.
