Forest Walk: I took a much needed walk in the woods today. My knees have been a mess for the last month, but with lots of knee exercises (and walking on the treadmill) they are on the road to recovery. This was my first walk in the woods since early September. I noticed a few changes along the way, the major one being that lots of property owners are in different stages of logging their land. Our neighbors that live near Lewis Hill Road are in the process of logging their 100 acres, and are doing a very responsible job of it. In fact, Drew took a few photos of their operation back on the Oct. 26th diary entry. It really does make a difference to hire a professional forester to make suggestions. As you will see in this slide show, our neighbors are certifying the logging with the Department of Conservation. Only certain trees are taken out, and the land is left neat, tidy, and healthy throughout. This is very different from the neighbors directly behind our house who are razing the land. What an ugly mess that is, and it is impossible to walk through. Our old forest trail is gone, there is lots of erosion, and my heart is saddened each time I attempt to walk back there.
