Orion: I went outdoors to audio tape some coyotes (who’d stopped howling by the time I’d reached the pond), but I decided to photograph the night sky instead. It was a beautiful clear sky, but darkness was fading into dawn at 5:30 am, so I was only able to take a few photos. This is Orion. I took the shot with the following Canon 50D Camera adjustments: ISO 1600, infinity, manual focus, 10 second exposure, f/5.6. I used my 70-200mm lens and zoomed in to 165mm. The back panel of this camera is great for reviewing the photos taken. The photo wasn’t as in focus as it could have been, but this is the best Orion photo I’ve ever taken. The nebula really shows up well as a bigger, fuzzier area on the sword. I’ll try the 400mm lens with the 1.4 teleconverter next time, and will focus in on the nebula.
