Pileated Woodpecker: This male woodpecker has been excavating a dead tree in our front yard in search of insects and grubs. Notice how he uses his tail as a “third leg” to brace himself on the tree. Turn up the sound on your computer to hear him call. (Please excuse the poor video quality; hopefully we will get better footage soon.) (Ugh…I think Vimeo is blocked at school…)
