Weather Update…AKA What A Difference A Day Makes: Our overnight high rose to a whopping 50F. WHAT? At 6:52 am, the outdoor temperature has dropped to 47.8F, and the temp will continue to drop all day. The snow is all but gone, on land and on the pond. We have opened up the house top to bottom to get some nice, fresh air inside. It smells like spring has sprung, albeit momentarily.
Tonight’s Weather: Oh, how the weather does change here. Our overnight low is supposed to be 36F. We are supposed to get periods of rain and wind, with gusts up to 20-30 mph. Rainfall will possibly be over one inch. I am sure glad I got out onto the pond ice this afternoon.
Weather Update: We are supposed to get heavy rain and wind early Wednesday (with a daytime high temp. of around 41F), followed by a super cold overnight. I predict that the neighbor kids will have glassy smooth ice to skate on for Thursday afternoon. Weird weather.
Happy Holidays to Everyone: It is spritzing snow on and off all day long. As I write this post at 3:30pm, the outdoor temp. is up to a whopping 22F (the high for the day.) Yahoo…we have a White Christmas! We hope your holiday is jolly and filled with love and laughter.
Snow: We got 2” of heavy, wet snow today. It is melting fast as the temperature got up to 36F. I haven’t even stuck my big toe out the door today. What am I doing? I am reading my coworker’s newly published romance novel, Miryana.
Pond Ice: We just barely have ice forming on the pond today. In fact, I expect the ice to be gone by the end of this week due to warming temperatures after this little cold snap (it is supposed to get down to 9F overnight.) Maine’s ice fishing season usually starts at the end of December, but it looks like the season will be delayed considerably as the days are too darned warm. See this news...
Cathance River Preserve Video: Some views of the “crooked” river.
Excursions within a 20 mile radius of Bowdoin: Well, we are slowly accumulating our list of places to walk and hike within a 20 mile radius of home. This is a fun project, and is one that everyone should try to do as gas prices soar. This is an opportunity to learn a lot about the area you live in, and what is available just outside your door. Here is our list thus far:

Weather: Nothing new to report on our front except for wet, dreary weather with temps in the low 50s. Ridiculous!
Papermill Trail Walk (10 miles from home): Located in Lisbon Maine, the Papermill Trail is approximately a three mile round trip (out and back). Much of the trail parallels the Sabattus River and there are hopes to extend it. What I like about this trail is that it is paved and is great for families with strollers and for people with mobility problems. Here is a tiny video of a few views of the...
Going Coastal: Well, we have decided to spend more time on the coast, for the foreseeble future, due to the huge increase in deer ticks in the woods. Our observations are being corroborated by hunters as you can read in the Lewiston Sun Journal news article about huge infestations of ticks on deer and moose.
Warmest November on record: Our temperatures are way too warm for this season and we ...
