Today is supposed to reach a high of 43F, and tomorrow’s high should reach 50F. ! The nighttime lows will be 34F. Then, we are due for rain showers on Sunday (40F) WHAT? This is crazy!!!
After all the surface...

Brrrr…. As I write this post at 6:30 am, the “feel-like temp. is -5F. The temperature is going to rise to a balmy 23F, with a windchill “feel-like” temperature of 8F and wind speeds of 22mph at around 2pm today. At least the sun will finally be shining brightly and the winds are slowing down! For all of you Kdoggy fans out there, check out our pup at play on our family...
Blizzard: At 6:20 am, we’ve got winds gusting to 50mph (and sounding like a steady roar) and blowing snow. Here is a tiny bit of footage looking out our back door. The patterns of wind blown snow are always fascinating as I stand watching from the shelter of our house. It is predicted that we will get between 10-15 inches of snow, but I really don’t think we’ll get that much,...
Drew & Laurie’s Blizzard Prep:
1. Go to gas station and fill gasoline jugs for snow thrower and generator.
2. Get wood bins loaded up.
3. Make Vegetarian Kasha Loaf (for carbo-loading before shoveling snow)
4. Make Laurie’s Country Corn Bread (for eating after snow removal to replenish energy reserves.)
5. Fill jugs of water in case of power outage.
Happy Birthday to Laurie: Today is the big 54. One of my students gave me a great compliment…He said, “Wow, Mrs. Haines you have a lot less wrinkles on your face than my grandmother had at 50 years old!” Ain’t kids loverly;-) For my birthday present, I bought two of my favorite albums from childhood and they arrived today. I have been in music bliss this evening as I listen...
Weather: Today, our daytime high will be 24F and our nighttime low will be 6F. The couple of inches of snow we received on Monday is still on the ground. There isn’t any more snow in the forecast until next Tuesday, but we’ll have rain over the couple of days before then. Ugh…
Pink Panels are up: We’ve got some bone-chilling temperatures coming our way over the next few days, and Drew put up the pink foam panels for the season. We’ll be bathed in muted pink light for the next 3 months! Pink’s a pretty color, right? Gotta keep a positive attitude as we try to stay warm for the winter. We don’t want to use up all of our wood too soon!

Brrr…Cold temps are on the way: It has been a mild week with the temps reaching into the 40s, and the pond ice has melted. Me thinks that there will be ice on the pond within the next few days, however. Our daytime temps will be below freezing all week, while our nighttime temps will dip into the teens. We might get enough snow to shovel tomorrow!
I’m still here…just another incredibly busy work week: Geez…this workload has to give sometime soon before I lose my mind. All I ever do is work…no time for photos last week as I stayed late at school each day, and have begun physical therapy for my back 2x per week. And, I graded papers at school all day today. UGH…
