Flower Garden Update: Yellow irises have been in bloom since last week. The purple irises should open in a few days, as should the false indigo (baptista). The day lilies have flower stalks, but won’t open for several weeks. The peony plants both have flower buds, and the red weigela has its first blooms. Herbs: Today, I planted a pot of Pinetree Lettuce Mix (leaf lettuces), a pot of romaine lettuce (winter density lettuce), a pot of basil (Siam Queen Thai basil), and a pot of Greek oregano (Origanum heracleoticum). All of these seeds were bought on-line at Pinetree Garden Seeds, a company located in New Gloucester, Maine. http://www.superseeds.com
