SNOW TOTAL THUS FAR: 102.25 inches SNOW: Yesterday afternoon, we got the tail end of the storm that hit New York City quite hard, and we received 3.25 inches of snow. We had a lovely, light snowfall all afternoon up until about 9pm. Drew said the snow felt like dried potato flakes underfoot while he and Kasha were out for their daily walk in the woods. LOCAL BIRD ACTIVITY: It has been a very...

STUMBLING ALONG IN THE WOODS: Today’s walk in the woods was not a good one. Rarely do I say this, because generally a walk in the woods is better than being inside any day, but not today. Oh, my aching back, twisted knees and ankles…The unevenness of the trail is due to the repeated thawing and freezing from abnormally high daytime temps., followed by below freezing nights. Each...

NEW SONG LYRICS: Hmm…all this snowfall reminds us of a popular song up here in Maine: ” Zero inches of snow on the ground…zero inches of snow…10 inches fall down and hit the ground, 10 inches of snow on the ground. 10 inches of snow on the ground, 10 inches of snow… a foot swirls down and hits the ground…22 inches of snow on the ground. 22 inches of snow on the ground, 22 inches of snow…19 inches...

At the moment, 5:45 pm, the snow is falling at a rapid rate and the wind is gusting up to 30 mph, creating whiteout conditions. It is wild outside!  (We’ve had 24.5 inches of snow over the last 6 days).

MYSTICAL, MAGICAL SNOWSHOEING: Mystical, magical snowshoeing in the forest today…We went off the beaten path and veered into the wild and woolly woods, snowshoeing over teeny creeks, up over logs and stone walls, through small gatherings of hemlocks, all the while following a path Drew remembered hiking 3 years ago. Periodically, we could see glimpses of the pond through the tangle of trees...

SNOW TOTAL THUS FAR: 83.5 inches. SNOW: We got 2.5 inches of new snow today. Where is the sun? We haven’t seen it in days, and won’t see it until Monday. I saw it briefly through the cloud cover yesterday afternoon as I shoveled the front deck. It was actually a strange sight as we have really become used to cloudy skies these last several weeks, with snow storm, followed by snow...

SNOW TOTAL THUS FAR: 81 inches SCHOOL SNOW DAY #6: We had 2.5 inches of super heavy, wet snow yesterday, and 7.5 inches of snow overnight into this morning. We went snowshoeing in the afternoon and the woods were so pretty with the new blanket of snow. We passed through a forested area that had many deer trails, one of which lead to a bedding area. Nice.

SNOW TOTAL THUS FAR: 71 inches. SNOW: We had 5.5 inches of heavy, wet snow today with the high temp. of 33F. We are in for several days of wintry mix with temps. close to freezing. Messy weather ahead.

WEATHER: Warm, warm, warm days and nights. We actually had a thunderstorm Friday night (which was preceded by a wintry mix/ice). Today the temp. got up to 35F, and the entire upcoming week will be well above freezing during the daytime hours. These temps. are more reminiscent of late February/early March. Ugh…the only way to safely walk on the forest trails is to wear our YakTrax for...
