FIRST SNOW FLAKES: At exactly 9:01 am (as per my students) it started to snow. This is the first snow of the season. My students were whooping and hollering, jumping up and down, hugging each other. You know you’re in Maine when people are this excited for winter to arrive.
Ordway Grove: Each year my teaching team takes our students to an old growth forest in Norway, Maine to study some of the largest white pines in the northeast. To see student poetry inspired by their field trip, click here.
WHITE-TAILED DEER: It gets dark around our neck of the woods by 5pm, and on our drive home from work last night we encountered two does and a young deer (I don’t know how old a fawn is considered to be, but this one was several months old) crossing the road at two separate parts of our trip; lots of activity out in the woods.
Bailey Island Visit: There are so many beautifully scenic places to visit in Maine, and Bailey Island is one of them. Popham Beach Post Noel: We had some rough surf as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Noel as it traveled up the east coast of North America. We decided to take advantage of the “calm after the storm” to photograph the waves at Popham Beach during low tide. The daytime temp. was 43F and the surf temp. was about 50F.
